Frequently asked questions
Can I learn Serbian for free?
Yes. Level 1 of practice, the phrasebook, the explanatory dictionary and the cards are free and need no account. Registration is free too: it saves your progress and unlocks every practice level.
Can I save my result without an account?
No, without an account you can’t save your practice progress: it only lasts until you close or reload the page. To keep your result, sign up or install the Android app.
Is Serbian hard to learn?
Serbian is a Slavic language with phonetic spelling: every letter is always pronounced the same way. The harder parts are the seven noun cases and pitch accent, but you can speak everyday Serbian long before you master them.
Should I learn Cyrillic or Latin?
Both. Cyrillic is the official script, but Latin is used everywhere in daily life, advertising and online. The two alphabets map letter for letter, so learning the second one takes an evening or two.
Is there an app for learning Serbian?
Yes. Live in Serbia works in the browser on desktop and mobile, and there is an Android app on Google Play. Your progress syncs across devices once you log in.
How long does it take to speak Serbian?
With 20–30 minutes a day, most learners handle basic everyday phrases after 1–2 months and reach a confident A2 level in about 6–9 months. It depends on regular study and talking to people.
